1948 Anglia Flathead powered Gasser

1948 Anglia with a record holding flathead Ford V8 that had pushed a steel bodied 1940 Willys into the 12’s back in 1961! The car was built back in the 60’s by a couple of cousins here in Portland, Oregon and was raced around the N.W. until 1967. Erwin found out the motor was for sale and purchased it from Ed Bingelli of Bing’s Speed Shop, for his 1939 Willys coupe. They weren’t happy with there times so they found a 1948 Anglia and being a lighter car they used the flathead and built the Anglia into a gasser. It’s last race was in 1967 and never raced again. It was found still sitting on the trailer it was towed home on from its last race! It has been lightly restored but maintains 95% of its original parts.

The motor was built by Ed Bingelli of Bing’s Speed Shop in Santa Rosa, California. Starting with a 59A block it was bored to 3 7/16th inch and stroked to 4 1/8th inch to make a 306 cubic inch Flathead with Edlebrock heads and about 10 to 1 compression. Topped with a Weiand intake and three 48 Strombergs. It has 1.9 inch Chevy intake valves and 1.6 inch exhaust valves. It runs an Isky 404A track cam, Harmon/Collins dual coil ignition and some extreme port and relief work done by Bing. That is backed up by a 39 Ford transmission with Zephyr gears and a 39 Ford rear end with 4.11 gears. It retains the original magnesium wheels and the whitewall Bruce slicks with new front tires.

This is the real thing, all steel body and original Anglia chassis, Kellison fiberglass front end and doors. Runs great and drives like a 48 Anglia with too much power! A great addition to anyone’s collection.
