Install a Borg Warner T-5 five speed in your early Mustang!

Start with a quality cross member from JR's Mustang & Ford.

I used a complete HO 302 and T-5 5 speed out of an 84 Mustang. I converted from a 289 with C-4 automatic. If you already have a three speed or four speed and want to use your older style bell housing you will need an adapter plate to accommodate the different bolt pattern and longer input shaft. These are available for about $100 dollars. The shifter comes up through the original hole in the floor with no modification needed. I modified an original 4 speed shift handle to keep the stock 65 appearance. The original speedometer cable works great as well as the drive shaft. I didn't even have to change the yoke! I put in a ford 9" with 3.25 gears and this works well with the stock HO 302 camming.

I can cruise at 100 mph and only turn 3,000 rpm. Gotta love that!
